Analysis: “A new perspective on the protection of whistleblowers under the ECHR: Halet v. Luxembourg” by Dimitrios Kafteranis

The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) published, on 11 May 2021, its decision in the case of Halet v. Luxembourg (application no. 44166/15: the case is available here, only in French). With this decision, the Strasbourg Court has put an end to a long legal battle that started with the Luxleaks revelations and with the first decision, in relation to Luxleaks, in 2016 by the Luxembourg First Instance Court (Tribunal d’arrondissement). Prior to the analysis of the ECtHR’s decision, it is useful to briefly recall the facts of the case.
