Analysis: “AG’s Opinion in Hungarian Transparency of Associations case” by Paul Dermine
Along with the solemn undertaking of the Von der Leyen Commission, the publication of AG Campos Sanchez-Bordona’s Opinion in Commission v Hungary (Case C-78/18) constitutes one of the Court of Justice’s highlights of early 2020. Commission v Hungary indeed promises to be one of the big cases of the year. Not only will it constitute the next important contribution of the Court to the broader institutional debate on the protection of EU values and democratic backsliding, but it will also include crucial developments on the freedom of capital and establishment, protection of personal data and the freedom of association.
