Boeing case: EU imposes countermeasures against US exports following WTO authorisation
The European Commission has announced that it will impose countermeasures on US exports worth 4 billion dollars following the lack of American initiative in order to provide the basis for a negotiated settlement in the Boeing and Airbus WTO cases.
As reported here by EU Law Live, in October 2019 the WTO’s Dispute Settlement Body authorised the US to impose countermeasures on the EU because of illegal subsidies granted to Airbus. The retaliatory duties are worth 7.5 billion euros. However, the WTO recently ruled a similar outcome with regard to US subsidies to Boeing, and authorised the EU to impose countermeasures.
