Bombardier’s acquisition by Alstom: approval decision published

The European Commission’s decision of 30 July 2020 approving, under Article 6(1)(b) of the EU Merger Regulation and subject to binding commitments, the acquisition of Bombardier Transportation by Alstom, has been officially published.

Bombardier Transportation is the global rail solutions division of the Canadian group Bombardier. Alstom is a French company active worldwide in the rail transport industry.

The approval is conditional on full compliance with a commitments package offered by Alstom. Given that both Alstom and Bombardier are global leaders in rail transportation, the Commission conducted an investigation on the notified merger, and concluded that it could raise serious competition concerns. To address such concerns
