Call for essays: ALAI European Author’s Right Award

L’Association Littéraire et Artistique Internationale (ALAI), with the support of the European Grouping of Societies of Authors and Composers (GESAC), have launched an annual award for students for the best essay relating to authors’ rights.

ALAI is a worldwide network of academics and experts in copyright that give young researchers the opportunity to showcase their views on authors’ right/copyright by entering an essay competition.

The essay must relate to the collective management of authors’ right/copyright and have a European dimension (this may include the comparison of third-country systems with that of the EU), and the candidates must be at least Master’s students, be under 35 years old, and have been recommended to submit an application by at least one professor.

The prizes include a cash prize for 2,000 euros to the first place winner (and if the Jury decides to award such, 1,000 euros to the second place), the opportunity to attend the 2022 International ALAI Congress in Portugal, membership during 2023 to a national ALAI group, one-year-subscription to the International Authors’ Right Magazine ‘RIDA’.

A one-page summary of the essay must be sent to alai.award@gesac.org before 15 November 2021. The short-listed candidates will have to send their essays before 15 February 2022.
