Commission adopts its 2021 Work Programme

The Commission has adopted its 2021 Work Programme, in which its green and digital objectives are clearly visible, but with action and priorities promised across a variety of fields.

In sum, the Work Programme lists fighting the COVID-19 pandemic as the ‘utmost priority’, including to secure a vaccine, and outlines new legislative initiatives in the digital, environmental, social, economic, human rights and democracy and health fields. The novel aspects of the Work Programme include the proposal for an ‘e-ID’ and a ‘European Health Union’.

Environment: 

In line with the European Green Deal, a ‘Fit for 55 package’ will be proposed to reduce emissions by at least 55% by 2030. A Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism will be
