Commission adopts revised Regional Aid Guidelines

The European Commission has adopted revised EU Guidelines on regional State aid, concerning the rules applicable to the granting of State aid to companies to support economic development of less advantaged regions in the EU by setting out the conditions under which regional aid may be considered to be compatible with the internal market and establish the criteria for identifying the areas that fulfil the conditions of Article 107(3)(a) and (c) TFEU.

This initiative is framed within the current Commission’s ‘fitness check’ of the 2012 State aid modernisation package, which aims to evaluate if the current rules are still fit for purpose, and they are the first set of State aid rules that are revised following the announcement of the
