Commission approves German State aid scheme to compensate farmers for costs of implementing Water Framework Directive
The European Commission has approved, under EU State aid rules, a German State aid scheme amounting to 30 million euros set to compensate Bavarian farmers for lost income and additional costs that were incurred in order to attain the objectives of the Water Framework Directive, notably the prohibition of horticultural and arable farming activities on buffer strips along natural waters. The farmers will be compensated vis-à-vis direct grants.
