Commission approves public funding relating to Timișoara Airport and Wizz Air agreements

Public funding had been granted by Romania to Timișoara Airport in western Romania between 2007 and 2009, fees were payable by airlines using the airport, and there was a concern that WizzAir was given preferential treatment that would push out competitors, through individual agreements.

The Commission conducted an in-depth investigation assessing whether these measures were in line with EU State aid rules following a complaint made by Carpatair in May 2011, and considering the oversupply of airport services in Romania.
