Commission finds that capital injections from PostNord to Post Danmark do not constitute State aid, while aid granted to PostNord by Denmark and Sweden must be recovered

The European Commission has adopted a decision in cases SA.49668 and SA.53403 regarding State aid granted in 2017 in the postal services markets by the Danish and Swedish authorities in form of capital injections: (i) to Post Danmark - national postal operator in Denmark and a subsidiary of PostNord - via PostNord, and (ii) directly to PostNord, logistics company owned by the Danish and Swedish States.

On the one hand, the Commission has declared that an internal capital injection of approximately 314.6 million euros from the public undertaking PostNord to Post Danmark does not constitute State aid within the meaning of EU rules. In particular, the Commission has considered that the aid meets the Market Economy Operator Principle
