Commission proposes to strengthen EU Drugs Agency’s mandate in view of advancing illicit drug market 

The European Commission has proposed to transform the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA) into the European Union Drugs Agency, thereby strengthening its mandate and ensuring that the agency can play a stronger role in addressing current and future challenges related to illicit drugs in the EU and in supporting Member States. 

Drug trafficking remains the largest criminal market in the EU and is estimated at a minimum retail value of 30 billion euros per year.
