Commission proposes update rules on COVID-19 travel rules in the EU

The European Commission has proposed to update the rules on coordination of safe and free movement in the EU, which were put in place in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The new proposed changes include:

With regard to the EU Digital COVID Certificate, a standard acceptance period of 9-month for vaccination certificates issued following the completion of the primary vaccination series; No additional restrictions such as quarantine periods or testing requirements for persons in possession of a valid EU Digital COVID Certificate; An adaption of the EU traffic light map to take into account increase in cases with a region's vaccine uptake; Exemptions from certain travel measures for cross-border commuters, children under 12 an
