Conclusion of the protocol on the implementation of the EU-Senegal Sustainable Fisheries Partnership Agreement published

Council Decision 2020/1786, by which the Protocol on the implementation of the EU-Senegal Sustainable Fisheries Partnership Agreement is approved on behalf of the EU, has been officially published and has entered into force.

The Protocol, which was signed on 18 November 2019 and approved by the European Parliament on 11 November 2020, seeks to enable the EU and Senegal to work more closely on promoting a sustainable fisheries policy and sound exploitation of fishery resources in Senegalese waters, and to support Senegal’s efforts to develop its fisheries sector. It also provides tuna fishing opportunities to French, Spanish, and Portuguese fishermen, with an annual EU financial contribution of 1.7 million euros.
