Consumers, Artificial Intelligence and the EU

Challenges arising in the EU from rapid advances in AI and automated decision-making (ADM) are being addressed by the European Parliament in the context of consumer protection, and in relation to the medical, legal, accounting professions and the banking sector.

A resolution was approved last week on how consumers should be informed, how to reach a human who could redress automated decisions, and how to check and correct ADM system decisions such as through review structures. The resolution will be voted on at the European Parliament’s next Plenary session.
