Council adopts further extension of temporary derogation from Rules of Procedure

The most recent Council Decision 2021/2098 (in a string of many) implementing a further extension of the temporary derogation from the Council’s Rules of Procedure to ensure ‘institutional continuity’ in decision-making despite COVID-19-related travel difficulties has been published. 

The Decision 2021/2098 further mandates the use of the ordinary written procedure for decisions taken by Coreper in accordance with the voting rules applicable for the adoption of Council acts concerned until 28 February 2022, on the basis that exceptional circumstances and travel restrictions continue.

This is a derogation from the first subparagraph of Article 12(1) of the Council’s Rules of Procedure, which establishes that such a decision
