Council adopts Regulations on slot relief and transport document extensions

The Council of the EU has adopted two sets of temporary rules to support the transport sector, which continues to be affected by the COVID-19 crisis.

First, it has adopted a Regulation providing relief from general EU airport slot requirements, based on a Commission proposal that sought to reduce the allocation-use threshold from 80% to 40%. The Council has agreed to grant airlines the possibility to return 50% of their slot series before the start of the 2021 summer season, but they will have to use at least 50% of the remaining slots if they want to hold on to them.
