Council approves additional sanctions on Belarus in response to Polish border crisis

The Council of the EU amended its Belarusian sanctions regime yesterday in light of the current Polish border crisis, which the EU claims is a ‘hybrid attack’ by the Belarusian regime and an attempt to instrumentalise migrants against the bloc.

Belarus is accused of facilitating the flow of migrants from the Middle East into its territory in order to redirect them towards the Polish border and create a migration crisis in response to the EU’s sanctions on the Lukashenko regime.
