Council decisions keeping Hamas in European list of terrorist organisations upheld by Court of Justice

The Court of Justice upheld today in Council v Hamas (C-833/19 P) several acts by the Council of the EU which maintained Palestinian organisation Hamas in the European list of terrorist organisations, a case bearing importance for the procedural rules applicable to EU sanctions.

The case is an appeal against the judgment of the General Court in Hamas v Council (T-308/18), which annulled, in so far as they concerned Hamas, two decisions adopted by the Council in 2018, namely (i) Council Decision (CFSP) 2018/475 and (ii) Council Decision (CFSP) 2018/1084.
