Council extends term of office of Europol chief

The Council of the EU has decided to extend for a four-year period the term of office of Ms Catherine De Bolle as Executive Director of Europol, at grade AD 16.

Ms De Bolle was first appointed for a four-year term in March 2018. The Management Board of Europol decided to propose her reappointment to the Council in accordance with Article 54(4) of Regulation 2016/794, as her current mandate was due to expire on 1 May 2022.

The Council has now decided to extend her term of office until 1 May 2026.

Recently, as reported here by EU Law Live, the Council appointed Mr Jean-Philippe Lecouffe as Deputy Executive Director of Europol for the period from 1 May 2021 to 30 April 2025.
