Council extends the regime for chemical weapons for one more year

In its annual review, the Council has adopted a decision to extend the restrictive measures against the proliferation and use of chemical weapons by one more year, until 16 October 2022.

The measures, initially introduced in 2018 under Council Decision (CFSP) 2018/1544, currently target 15 persons and two entities and consist of a travel ban to the EU, an asset freeze, and a prohibition to make funds available to them by EU persons and entities.

The objective of the measures is to counter the proliferation and use of chemical weapons, which pose a serious threat to international security, and support the global prohibition of chemical weapons as laid down by the Chemical Weapons Convention.
