Council: Further extension of temporary derogation from Rules of Procedure

Today, official publication has been made of Council Decision 2021/26 further extending the temporary derogation from the Council’s Rules of Procedure in view of the travel difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in the EU.

This new Decision, adopted on 12 January 2021, extends the possibility for the ordinary written procedure to be used for decisions taken by Coreper in accordance with the voting rules applicable for the adoption of the Council act concerned until 19 March 2021. This is in derogation of the first subparagraph of Article 12(1) of the Council’s Rules of Procedure, which establishes that such a decision shall be taken by unanimous vote.
