Council implements restrictive visa measures on The Gambia for its failure to cooperate on readmission
The Council has adopted an implementing decision on the temporal suspension of certain provisions of the visa code with respect to The Gambia. The decision follows the country’s lack of cooperation in readmitting its own nationals who have no legal right to say in the EU.
The Commission regularly assesses third countries’ cooperation on readmission. In July 2021 the Commission proposed that the Council adopt specific restrictive visa measures on The Gambia, Bangladesh and Iraq given that the countries were not cooperating on readmission.
