Crisis in Venezuela: EU ready to apply measures against individuals

Yesterday, the High Representative Josep Borrell issued a declaration on behalf of the EU on the latest developments on the National Assembly of Venezuela. Mr Borrell expressed the EU’s full support to Juan Guaidó as President of the National Assembly, and depicted the recent acts against the democratically elected body and many of its Members as serious violations of democracy, rule of law and human rights.

Mr Borrell announced that the EU is ready to start work to apply targeted measures against individuals involved in the violation of these principles and rights. He clarified that such measures shall in no way harm the Venezuelan people and that the EU will maintain its assistance to the population, and stated that it is considering further action to improve the humanitarian crisis in Venezuela.
