ECHR halts activity and suspends time-limits and proceedings for a one-month period

The European Court of Human Rights has announced the introduction of exceptional measures to respond to the current health crisis.

Although the essential activities of the ECtHR are maintained, only urgent requests for interim measures under Rule 39 of the Rules of the Court will be examined during the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, and only when there is an imminent risk of irreversible harm.

Also, the six-month time-limit for the lodging of applications has been, exceptionally, suspended for a one-month period as of today, Monday 16 March 2020.

All time-limits allotted in ongoing proceedings are suspended for a month as of Monday 16 March 2020.
