ECtHR: Grand Chamber judgment in Georgia v. Russia (II)

Today, the Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) handed down its ruling in the inter-state case Georgia v. Russia (II), concerning the armed conflict which broke out between Georgia and the Russian Federation in August 2008 and its consequences.

The application by Georgia, declared partially admissible in 2011, alleged that Russia had allowed or caused an administrative practice of human rights breaches to exist, through indiscriminate and disproportionate attacks against civilians and their property on the territory of Georgia by the Russian army and/or the separatist forces placed under its control.
