ECtHR: Swiss requirement that a person declared unfit for military service for health reasons must pay tax is discriminatory
Today, the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) rendered its Chamber judgment in Ryser v. Switzerland (application no. 23040/13), ruling that Swiss authorities violated the prohibition of discrimination in conjunction with the right to respect for private and family life (Articles 14 and 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights, ECHR) when they required the payment of an exemption tax from a person declared unfit for military service for health reasons.
