ECtHR: Ukraine committed large-scale human rights breaches during Maidan protests

Today, the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) rendered five Chamber judgments concerning the 2013-2014 Maidan protests in Ukraine, ruling that the events surrounding the protests involved multiple violations of several rights protected by the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), including the prohibition of torture and inhuman and degrading treatment (Article 3), the right to liberty and security (Article 5), the freedom of assembly and association (Article 11), the right to life (Article 2), and the right to respect for private and family life (Article 8).
