EIB and City of Vienna sign climate partnership

Today, the European Investment Bank (EIB) announced the signature of a ‘Joint Declaration on Climate Partnership’ with the City of Vienna. Under this agreement, future City of Vienna projects concerning housing, energy, waste and transport will be subject to advance analysis for possible EIB financing, taking into account their climate action contribution.

After its decision last autumn to align all financing activities with the goals of the Paris Climate agreement, the EIB is called on to play a central role in the European Green Deal.  This is its first partnership with a large EU city and entails ‘a signal for other cities in Europe’, according to EIB Vice-President Andrew McDowell, responsible for energy policy.
