ESA prolongs recommendation to prevent delays and ease market access for protective equipment and medical gear

Yesterday, the EFTA Surveillance Authority (ESA) adopted a decision amending its previous Recommendation of 24 March 2020 on conformity assessment and market surveillance procedures within the context of the COVID-19 threat, in order to prolong its period of application.

This Recommendation, which was due to expire on 24 September 2020, includes suggestions for quicker conformity assessments for new personal protective equipment (PPE) products, as well as a recommendation to the EEA EFTA States to consider the possibility of derogations from standard market-approval procedures for medical equipment

By this extension, ESA works on continuing to make it easier for medical devices and PPE to be placed on the market. The amendment decision does not indicate a final deadline for application of the Recommendation of 24 March 2020.

The decision is available here.
