EU and Honduras sign agreement to reduce illegal timber logging

The EU and Honduras have signed a voluntary partnership agreement (VPA) on forest law enforcement, governance and trade in timber products to the EU, in order to ensure that all Honduran timber and timber products imported in the EU are legally sourced and licensed.

This makes Honduras the first Latin American country and only the eighth one globally to sign a VPA with the EU under the Action Plan on Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (FLEGT), an EU policy which dates back to 2003 and is intended to tackle illegal logging of forests around the world.
