EU and US launch COVID-19 Manufacturing and Supply Chain Taskforce

The European Commission and the United States have issued a Joint Statement finalizing the launch for the joint COVID-19 Manufacturing and Supply Chain Taskforce as part of their efforts to end the global pandemic.

Over the past months, the US and EU have worked closely together to resolve supply chain bottlenecks as part of a regular COVID-19 vaccine supply chain dialogue. At the 2021 EU–US Summit, a joint COVID-19 Taskforce was announced, which aims to deepen cooperation and resolve issues around expanding vaccine and therapeutics production capacity to enable the production and supply of vaccines for the world.

Yesterday the Taskforce met in Washington, D.C., to finalize the Mission Statement of the Taskforce and set three main lines of action:

  • Monitor and analyze global demand and supply of COVID-19 vaccines and therapeutics and support Access to COVID-19 Tools Accelerator (ACT-A), launched by WHO and partners, and COVAX supply chain efforts;
  • Address critical supply chain bottlenecks and other factors that may disturb the production of the vaccine and therapeutics and develop a joint approach to supply chain monitoring for key vaccine inputs;
  • Coordinate initiatives to improve global production of COVID-19 vaccines, therapeutics, and their production and ancillary supplies.
