

EU extends sanctions on individuals for human rights violations in Democratic Republic of Congo for one more year
The Council of the European Union has announced that it will be continuing to apply EU sanctions including an asset freeze and ban on entering the EU against individuals currently on its sanctions list in respect of the situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The sanctions will apply until 12 December 2022 and are published in CFSP Decision 2021/2181.
The individual restrictive measures were first adopted by the Council in 2016 in response to human rights violations and the obstruction of the electoral process. The Council considers that the existing measures remain valid in view of the current political situation and are useful in preventing new human rights violations by state and non-state actors.
