EU Firearms Directive codified and now published
A Directive (2021/555) codifying the rules on control of the acquisition and possession of weapons in the EU, as they have been amended many times, has now been published.
The Directive harmonises legislation on firearms, sets out formalities on transferring weapons across borders, and generally deals with internal market rules vs security needs. It does not apply to weapons used for legally permissible purposes, including arms used by the authorities.
