European Association of Judges calls on Commission to uphold judicial independence after a Polish judge is sanctioned for following a Court of Justice ruling

Mr José Igreja Matos, President of the European Association of Judges, calls on the European Commission to take action to ‘protect the application of European Union law and the implementation of CJEU rulings in Poland’, expressing grave concern about judicial independence and the rule of law in Poland.

In a statement, he refers to the indefinite suspension and 40% salary cut imposed on Justice Paweł Juszczyszyn by the Supreme Court’s Disciplinary Chamber for compliance with the Court of Justice’s preliminary rulings AK, CP and DO.
