European Chief Prosecutor proposes 1 June 2021 as start date for EPPO operations

The European Chief Prosecutor of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) has sent a letter to Justice Commissioner Reynders proposing EPPO to start its operations on 1 June 2021.

The European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) is a newly-created independent EU body that has the competence to investigate, prosecute and bring to judgment crimes against the EU budget, such as fraud, corruption or serious cross-border VAT fraud.

The Regulation establishing the European Public Prosecutor’s Office under enhanced cooperation was adopted on 12 October 2017 and entered into force on 20 November 2017. At least two European Delegated Prosecutors (EDPs) are appointed per participating country. They are entrusted with carrying out
