European Ombudsman advises Commission on how to improve public access to and proactive publicity of confirmatory decisions
The European Ombudsman has delivered two decisions (in cases 787/2020/DL and 763/2020/DL) concerning the Commission’s transparency policy on public access requests (in particular its so-called final ‘confirmatory decisions’). The Ombudsman has advised the Commission to step up its processing of future requests for access, and she has made a series of suggestions concerning proactive publication of confirmatory decisions in the future.
Both cases stem from complaints brought by a postdoctoral researcher, who asked the Commission to disclose its final decisions on public access requests made between 2014 and 2018.
