European Ombudsman: requests for public access to information should be dealt with promptly in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic 

The European Ombudsman has delivered a decision (in case 73/2021/MIG) finding no maladministration in the European Commission’s response to a request for public access to a list of transports of live cattle from Germany to countries outside the EU, but regretting the delay with which the request was handled.

The complainant, a journalist representing a German public TV station, is investigating the transport of live animals from the EU to third countries, who in March 2020 request public access to a list containing information on transports of live cattle from Germany to countries outside the EU. The Commission had first given the complainant access to a redacted version of the list, based on the need to protect personal data. Fol
