Fundamental Rights Agency calls for increased protection of victims of online crime

To mark European Day of Justice on 25 October, the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) has urged the EU and Member States to step up the protection of victims of online crime such as fraud, bullying, harassment, and online hate speech.

More specifically, the FRA recommends that the following actions are taken in order to deliver on the rights of victims, as guaranteed under the Victims’ Rights Directive 2012/29:

Providing online tools for victims to simply and quickly report incidents of cybercrime and hate speech to the police; Supporting organisations providing easy online help to victims; Creating new or expanded specialist police units to tackle online hate and crime; and Running rights awareness campaigns to inform co
