In-depth State aid investigation opened into French lottery’s exclusive rights
The European Commission has opened an in-depth investigation to determine whether the granting of exclusive rights to Française des Jeux for a period of 25 years is in line with EU State aid rules.
Française des Jeux is the operator of France’s national lottery games, and was granted exclusive rights for the operation of lottery games marketed in physical distribution networks and online, and sports betting games marketed in physical distribution networks. Française des Jeux, which was privatised in 2019, paid 380 million euros to the French Government in exchange for the exclusive rights.
