Investigation initiated by Commission on EPEX Spot’s possible anticompetitive behaviour

A formal investigation has been opened by the European Commission to assess EPEX Spot SE’s (‘EPEX Spot’) behaviour in the electricity intraday market, and whether it has used its dominant position to obstruct competitors’ activities in Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Austria and the Netherlands.

As the biggest power exchange in many EU Member States, EPEX Spot engages in the intraday market with the aim of trading power with other sellers and buyers during the last hours before it is introduced in the network. Intraday trading facilitation services play a key role in maintaining a safe and effective management of electricity grids and the network and in ensuring an efficient use of eco-friendly technologies.
