Mink farms: EU Food Safety and Disease Prevention agencies recommend prioritising early detection of coronavirus
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) warn that all mink farms should be considered at risk from SARS-CoV-2, and have published a joint report on the request of the European Commission that recommends prioritising its early detection at mink farms.
EFSA and ECDC suggest options for monitoring strategies, such as that monitoring should include active measures such as testing of animals and staff in addition to passive surveillance by farmers and veterinarians.
As of January 2021, the virus had been detected at 400 mink farms in eight countries in the EU/EEA.
