New Practice Directions to parties before the CJEU

Today, publication was made in the Official Journal of the Practice Directions to Parties Concerning Cases Brought Before the Court. These instructions, adopted by the Court of Justice of the EU (CJEU) on the basis of Article 208 of its Rules of Procedure, apply to all categories of cases brought before the CJEU. They purport to give the parties and their representatives specific guidance on the CJEU’s Statute and Rules of Procedure, as well as to outline in greater detail the conduct of proceedings before the CJEU.

This document replaces the Practice Directions adopted by the CJEU on 25 November 2013 and reflect the important technical and legislative developments that have occurred from that moment. In particular, they take into account the amendments of the CJEU’s Rules of Procedure and the increasing use of electronic methods of communication for the transmission of procedural documents.

The new Practice Directions will enter into force on March 1, 2020. Read them here.
