Op-Ed: “Brexit and I” by Allan F. Tatham

The last day of January will be one of sadness for some and jubilation for others, marking, after 47 years of marriage, the UK’s divorce from the EU. For me, the wheel has now come full circle. As a child in 1973, I received as presents the 50p piece specially-struck by the Royal Mint and the three stamps issued by the Royal Mail to commemorate the UK’s accession to the EEC; then two years later, on coming home from school one June day, I saw the referendum results confirming Britain’s continuing membership. Four years ago, I was also back in the UK to witness the 2016 referendum result on another June day and will, no doubt, in due course receive another 50p, this time marking Brexit and “taking back control.”
