1. Introduction

On 22 June 2021, the Grand Chamber released its judgment in B (C-439/19) on the interpretation of several provisions of Regulation 2016/679 (General Data Protection Regulation – GDPR), particularly regarding the concept of ‘personal data relating to criminal convictions and offences’. B lodged a constitutional complaint before the Latvian Constitutional Court on the compatibility of Latvian law obliging the Road Safety Directory (CSDD) to publicly disclose information on penalty points imposed due to road traffic offences with the fundamental right to respect for private life laid down in the Latvian Constitution.
