Parliament and Council agree on 2022 EU budget

The European Parliament and the Council of the EU, on a proposal from the European Commission, have reached an informal political agreement on the EU budget for 2022, setting commitments at 169.5 billion euros and payments at 170.6 billion euros.

The new budget is expected to allow mobilisation of significant funds for a continued EU response to the coronavirus pandemic and encourage further investment into a greener, more digital and more resilient Europe. The budget will direct funds to where they can make the greatest difference, in line with the most crucial recovery needs of the EU Member States and the EU’s international partners. According to the projections, the budget leaves enough resources under the expenditure ceiling
