Reducing air travel tax on flights to and from German locations: State aid approval continues
Two existing German aid schemes supporting reduction and exemption of air travel tax on flights to and from small islands in Germany, originally approved by the Commission under EU State aid rules in 2011 and 2012, can go ahead with increases in their budgets. The increase is intended so that connections between and economic participation of citizens living in smaller areas can be improved.
The increase in budget means that citizens can still benefit from the intended aims, in the context of a planned German Climate Action Programme 2030, which will commence in April this year and increase air transport tax to encourage less polluting transport options.
