
Romania, Bulgaria and Croatia now part of Global Navigation Satellite System Agreement with Ukraine
A Council Decision (2020/520) has been published in the Official Journal today, which authorises the Council Presidency to designate the person(s) empowered to sign the Protocol to the Cooperation Agreement on a Civil Global Navigation Satellite System, on behalf of the EU and its Member States, the other party being Ukraine. The effect of doing so is to take into account the accession of Bulgaria, Romania (acceded on 1 January 2007) and Croatia (1 July 2013) to the European Union. This is in accordance with Article 6(2) of the respective Accession Acts, which require those ‘new’ Member States to join the Cooperation Agreement by means of a Protocol, which was then negotiated by the Commission.
