Rules on information given to private investors purchasing investment products simplified

Simplified rules on information that private investors should receive when purchasing certain investment products have been adopted by the European Commission today, in the form of a Delegated Regulation which sets out that information on the ‘Packaged Retail and Investment and Insurance Products’ (PRIIPs) in a single document (the Key Information Document).

This improvement was necessary because PRIIPs are at the core of the retail investment market, often offered by banks to consumers for specific reasons, making up a market in Europe that is worth up to 10 trillion euros: but are often complicated and lacking in transparency, the information provided being overly complex with jargon, and making it difficult to compare different
