

Insight: “Second extension of restriction of ‘non-essential travel’ to the EU proposed by Commission to Member States” by Anjum Shabbir
Today the European Commission has invited the EU+ States* (all Schengen Member States, including Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, and Romania) and the Schengen Association States Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland) to extend their existing restrictions on travel to the EU by certain categories of persons, so that it can prioritise the lifting of travel and containment restrictions within and between the EU+ states (with some suggesting the Commission will soon also issue a strategy to promote intra-EU tourism). It has done so in the form of a Commission Communication, which includes its assessment of why the prolongation is necessary.
