Southern Gas Corridor: Council authorisation for signature of Joint Declaration for supply of gas to Europe

For the supply and transportation of gas to Europe from the Republic of Azerbaijan – for example to Georgia, the Republic of Turkey, the Hellenic Republic, the Republic of Albania, the Republic of Bulgaria and the Italian Republic, a long term strategic partnership currently exists with stakeholder countries of the Southern Gas Corridor.

That partnership is the subject of a Council decision that has been adopted to authorise the EU to sign a joint declaration on 28 February 2020 in Baku, which reaffirms the Council’s determination to deepen that partnership, and considers expansion. It is expected that the joint declaration will be endorsed by representatives of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Republic of Bulgaria, Georgia, the Hellenic Republic, Hungary, the Italian Republic, the Republic of Turkey, the Republic of Croatia, Montenegro, Romania, San-Marino, Turkmenistan, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, and the European Union.

More information is available in a document publishing the outcome of the 3750th Council Meeting, held in Brussels. The draft Joint Declaration can be viewed here.
